Historic Site to Remember

Canada's history is something that Canadian citizens should share and make known to the world. From the battle at Vimy Ridge to Confederation, Canada has significant events that formed our nation. In hopes of commemorating these events, we have historical sites. There are 970 National historic sites in Canada, from the Refuge Cabin of Abbot Pass, to the plains of Stoney Creek where Canada battled in the War of 1812. I think it is important to show negative sides of Canada's past as well as the positive. This is why I believe that Residential Schools, specifically the Birtle Indian Residential School in Manitoba which is one of the 17 Residential schools in Canada still standing, should be a new Canadian National Historic site. While other Residential Schools have been torn down, or turned it other buildings, we need to preserve and teach our past with the buildings that remain.
