The Importance of Inuit Knowledge In The Arctic

Recently, the discovery of Franklin's HMS Erebus sparked a new interest of exploration in the Canadian Arctic. Since its discovery, the world has veered into the history of Arctic exploration and the significance of the explorers that sailed into the Northwest Passage. We see that explorers such as Franklin would build the foundation of how we explore the Arctic and how we can learn from it. Franklin, along with many other explorers, gave us important details and knowledge about the land, and the people, in the Arctic. In present day Nunavut, there are communities that are a result of explorers. For example, Pond Inlet was nothing but a place to set up camp for Inuit. As years progressed, it started to build up as a community. Explorers that travelled to Pond Inlet helped make this community grow.
