The Effects Of World War II On Women In Canada

When comparing the first and second World Wars, the involvement of women on the actual war front not only changed but also increased substantially. During both wars, women organized home defense, outfitting themselves in uniforms and training in rifle shooting and military drill. The first two women forces created were the Air Force and Army in 1941, and some 50,000 Canadian women eventually enlisted in the Air Force Army and Navy. This demonstrates a significant shift in society's views as women began to enroll in jobs that men had solely occupied for quite some time.
